Oral Hygienist

Qualified in Swiss Prophylaxis

Everyone loves the feeling of a freshly cleaned mouth. This feeling is often not possible at home and is one of the main reasons why people visit the oral hygienist.

Oral hygiene is the practise of keeping one’s mouth clean and free of disease. Regular screenings are essential for the maintenance and overall health for both adults and children.

A specific oral hygiene program is designed to your specific needs, to help achieve the optimal oral health condition. Bad breath, or halitosis, is usually caused by an underlying dental problem. The odour is often caused by a bacteria or plaque build-up around the teeth or under the gum line. If your bad breath is caused by the latter, only a professional clean by a hygienist will be able to resolve your issue.

The future of Modern Prophylaxis
I use the Guided Biofilm Therapy which is the unique prophylaxis Swiss technology. The EMS Air –flow improves visibility of calculus, minimises harmful oral bacteria, and enhances patient comfort.

Other Services:

  • Dental Screening

A hygienist will be looking out for the early signs of oral cancer. Oral cancer is highly curable when it is detected early. A hygienist will offer you advice on the risk factors of oral cancer and how you can reduce them.

Part of the screening includes detecting caries (tooth decay) and referring to a dentist before too much damage to the tooth occurs.

It is recommended to have a hygienist appointment every six months, even for someone with the best oral hygiene.

  • Scale and Polish

A professional cleaning of your teeth by removing plaque and calculus (tartar) by means of scaling and polishing. It is this calculus that can cause many dental issues such as gum disease, tooth decay, halitosis (bad breath) and even tooth loss. It is recommended every six months.

  • Desensitizing Treatment

Teeth become sensitive when incorrect brushing techniques cause receding of the gums and expose the neck of the tooth. Not only are there desensitizing materials available, it is necessary to correct the underlying cause.

  • Deep scaling / Root planning

A professional cleaning of your teeth by removing plaque and calculus (tartar) by means of scaling and polishing provides the basis by which periodontal disease can be controlled and managed.

  • Maintenance of Orthodontic Patients

Patients undergoing orthodontic treatment should have regular scale and polishing to prevent demineralization and gum disease. The EMS Air Polisher helps to remove all the plaque in the difficult to reach areas.

  • Maintenance of Periodontal Patients

Gum disease can be treated and even reversed when caught in the early stages. When gum disease develops into the later stages, it can cause bleeding and painful gums, bad breath and loose teeth. A hygienist will not only treat gum disease, but will provide you with knowledge of how you can prevent it yourself at home.

  • Maintenance of Dental Implants

Cleaning an implant is just as important as cleaning natural teeth. To prevent peri-implantitis (inflammation of the implant) which can result in a loss of an implant, it is important to keep the tissue surrounding the implant healthy.

  • Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride treatment is necessary to strengthen the enamel. This prevents tooth decay specifically for teeth that already have decay or poor oral hygiene and sensitivity.

  • Fissure Sealants

Preventative fissure seals for children are a most effective means of preventing tooth decay, in the premolar and molar teeth, as these sealants essentially seal the grooves on the surface of these teeth where decay often begins.

  • Teeth Whitening

Over time, your teeth can develop staining. External stains that build up on teeth cannot be removed from brushing. These stains are often caused by tea, coffee, tobacco, red wine and other strong foods and drinks. A hygienist has ways of removing these stains to restore your teeth to their natural whiteness.

Teeth Whitening is a successful and simple method of lightening the colour of your teeth. The degree of whiteness achieved will vary from patient to patient and the type of bleaching process chosen.

  • Sports Mouth Guards

A fabricated Sports Mouth Guard is made for different types of sports such as Rugby, Hockey, Karate and Boxing. The custom-fitted mouthguards are moulded and fitted for optimal protection and comfort. It is made from high-quality material in a variety of colours that are used to protect the teeth and gums, from sustaining dental injuries and concussions.
